Value of Research So Far

What I’ve learnt from my research into film openings are:

·        Most of the time there is non-diegetic music playing in the beginning that reflects the mood of the scene. We could do this to make our own movie set the right tone straight away.

·        There are also usually about 6-8 credits before the movie begins. This gives the audience brief information of what companies were involved in making the movie. Sometimes credits are added over the action - I had not realised how many of them there are, you do not see that when you are watching the film normally because you are concentrating on the action. So we must make sure that our credits are visible but don't break the audience out of watching.

·        There is also usually non-diegetic sound of some kind at the beginning of the movie to help the audience figure out what type of movie this is going to be like.

·        There is also usually an establishing shot to show the viewers where the characters are located. Quite often this is an aerial shot.

·        The main characters, most of the time, are always showed first so the audience create a bond with them, which will help get more motions out of them if something good or bad happens to the character. Close ups are used so we get used to their face and start to read their emotions.

·        There is also very little action that happens at the beginnings so the audience are encouraged to sit and watch the whole movie to find out what’s going to happen.

·        Also if all the main action was clear at the beginning the story line would be boring and the audience may feel the movie was a waste of their time.

My Ideas for Film Outline

A seasoned team of bank robbers who have been together for years and are coming together one more time to complete the ultimate heist that would make them potential millionaire if accomplished.  But a member of the team, Shehan, is tired of sharing and decides he wants the whole money for himself, so he sets the team up with another gang going for the same price. Shehan’s plan is to get both groups together at the same time so they eliminate each other and leave the money all for him. The plan is to rob the biggest bank of England on the day the most money is coming in, which is July 1st.

The team are dressed in suits to look like typical business men and to not draw attention to them. They will already be in the bank and try and shut down all the alarms off so the police aren’t alerted. The mission is meant to be accomplished within 3 minutes or less and the goal is to escape through the back with over £10 million.

But then the gang plans to rob the bank the old fashioned way, with just wearing masks and breaking in from the front.

Both groups engage in a gun battle in the bank while two of the members (Shehan and Jordan) of the team go wrap up the money.

They get the money and make an exit through the back in an underground sewer. Then Shehan shoots Jordan and kills him and make a run with all the money.

The other two teams get shot by police but Kennedy escaped through the same exit used by Shehan and Jordan and soon makes a gruesome discovery. Kennedy comes after Shehan and seeks to have revenge and get the money back.

Value of Initial Research

Research

Most films start with an establishing shot to show the audience where the scene is taking               place.

Nothing much happens during the first two minutes in terms of major plot development

In most films, they introduce the main characters during the first two minutes

Some films show a part of the story and gives us a hint of what is going to happen in the     film,  but only a hint.

Most film openings have non-diegetic music over them to show emotion and to establish the         genre.

Films always start with the production and distribution logos.

Some films adopt the logos to suit the film, for eg: Green Lantern.

My Ideas for First 2 Minutes

First two minutes

The film will open with the production and distribution logos and it will show some information about what year and to show what happened to the government. The first shot is an aerial shot to show how advanced things are. Then we will see a guy in a mid shot (working really hard – labour).  He is about to finish his shift. When he gets home, two people come into his house and they ask him about the taxes and the amount he owe for the government. One of them shoots his wife when he refuses and says he has got no money. He starts to fight back, but one of the shoost his leg and said let this be a lesson for you. After they left, he get up and a close up will show out his emotions and anger. There will be background music after the production logos appear.

The first wave of attack is to divert the attention of the security. The two most talented racers get to the scene and start shooting at the body guards and all the vehicles behind the target's vehicle. The security has no choice but to follow us and kill them. The second stage is to eliminate the guards with the prime minister. And the third stage is to kidnap him. After kidnapping there will be a live broadcast and he will be made to tell the truth, and made to transfer all his funds and money to a central account which will later be distributed amount the poor community. Practice Filming

This is the version that I did at home. I took out everything that was not effective on the clip. I inserted a production logo at the beginning and titles at the end. I added music to the background and some special effects to make it stand out.

I included a still image at the end of the clip, so the audience can see the aftermath of the violence occurred. The detailed analysis can be seen in my previous post.

Initial Ideas for Filming

Here we are thinking through a scene that we imagine could be good in our opening sequence, and trying to work out how it could be filmed. This might all change when we establish our story ideas more firmly, but it makes a starting point for the group.
